International Criminal Court (ICC) Signature Campaign

10am
Meet by the flagpole (at the turn-around on Memorial Way)

One of the most promising ideas for safeguarding peace and justice in the
21st century lies in the hopes of establishing an International Criminal
Court. The creation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is at a
critical turning point-- in order for the U.S. to support the court,
President Clinton needs to sign the treaty by December 31. Amnesty
International will be heading downtown on Sunday to Westlake and other
bustling hot spots to get pedestrians to sign the ICC ratification
petition. This is a perfect chance to take a break from finals and take a
real stand for human rights!! If you'd like to support the ICC, but can't
make it to the signature campaign, let President Clinton know how
important you think this is by calling him on Human Rights Day, December
10 -- (202) 456-1414 For further info about the ICC, check out the Amnesty
USA ICC information page: www.amnestyusa.org/icc

installations, will be on display at the reception. Refreshments will be
served and afterwards, students will present copies of the six-community

Rally for Striking Newspaper Workers*

1pm
Victor Steinbrueck Park, by the market

Make plans to join members of the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild/CWA
(and other union members honoring their picket lines) at this Holiday
Rally They need to see the community is behind them this holiday season as
the Seattle newspaper strike approaches one month. Times/P-I management
and the businesses that still advertise in their struck newspapers need to
see that their customers support these workers' fight for respect and a
fair contract.

Join People for Gap Accountability

Did you know that the founders of the Gap also own a huge piece of land in
Northern California that they are logging? These 235,000 acres are home to
redwoods, old growth trees, and several endangered species. Amazing, yes,
but the family that benefits from widespread sweatshop abuses ALSO
benefits from irresponsible logging practices. A common theme of
exploitation certainly seems to run throughout Fisher family ventures.

What can you do? Join People for Gap Accountability as we protest in front
of the Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy (all owned by Gap Inc.) during
the huge shopping month that is December.

To get in on the leafletting, talking, dancing and singing, get ahold of
Eve at eve at nwlink.com or (206)256-0724.
