Hi all,
Sorry for duplicates. Please forward to interested parties.
March 8th is International Women's Day, and I hope that you will be
interested in creating a celebration for the UW campus to raise awareness
of the diversity of women in the world and locally.
International Women's Day has been celebrated many ways. It originated as
a strike by New York garment workers in the early 1900s; since then it has
been commemorated by conferences, demonstrations, and other
consciousness-raising efforts. What should we do to mark this symbolic
day?
Please contact me if you want to contribute your creative ideas and energy
towards an event that calls attention to women across lines of race,
class, sexuality: our histories, our accomplishments, and our ties
to and implications within the globalizing political economy.
Hopefully, we can meet sometime early next week to begin planning for
March 8. Please let me know what times are convenient for you to meet.
