2) Master Class w/ E. Elias Merhige: The Subconscious Muse

All created works begin as shadow in the imagination of the artist.
Precipitating those shadows into the light of day, or the light of the
projector is one of the central themes of this two day workshop, where
visual aesthetics, style, and methods of accessing your muse will all be
explored in detail. In the process, we will work with actors and
objects to bring ideas from the subconscious into the conscious.

•Elias Merhige is an internationally acclaimed Film , Music Video, and
Theater director, as well as performance artist, lecturer, and
educator. His work in film includes the experimental film, Begotten
(showing at the Grand Illusion, 10/16--See GI Calendar for more info)as
well as music videos for the band Marilyn Manson. He has directed live
theater at the renowned Ghent Theater in Belgium, and was the founder of
the acclaimed TheaterofMaterial in New York City. He has taught film at
NYU and the New School for Social Research, and lectured on Aesthetics
at the Carnegie-Mellon Museum.

3) Technical Workshop w/ Jamie Hook: Editing on Film
Tuesdays, Oct. 13-Nov. 3, 7-9:30pm
$200 WigglyWorld Members/$250 Gen. Public

Whether you choose to edit on film or video, a knowledge of Film-based
editing will be a great creative asset. Learn the overall process of
film-based editing by cutting an actual unused scene from a feature
film. We will begin with raw workprint and sound, and go through the
edit process step-by-step, including marking, synching, coding, logging,
pulling, editing, and final writeup. In the process, we will learn the
use of the tools of the editing-room: sync-blocks, splicers, trim-bins,
split reels, rewinds, etc. This class will enable you to edit a
sync-sound, feature-length film, from beginning to end, without losing a
frame.

•Jeremy Hook is an accomplished local film editor who has edited all
three features by local director Gregg Lachow: The Seven Mysteries of
Life, The Wright t Brothers,, and Money Buys Happiness, as well as
numerous local shorts on both film and video. He recently produced the
feature, Money Buys Happiness,, and is currently co-producing the
feature film, Out of the Blue, by Sue McNally. Jeremy is co-founder of
the Northwest Film Forum, and director of WigglyWorld Studios.
