Below is a forwarded message from The American Indian Student Commission
director. There is information regarding the return of the college
republican's affirmative action bake sale, which is happening tomorrow,
April 27th on the HUb lawn. There are also many student groups setting
up booths to counter the CR's methods of expressing their opinions. If
you would like to be involved, or set up a WAC booth with information on
affirmative action, please let me know by emailing
asuwomn at u.washington.edu, or coming to the meeting today at 5pm in HUB 201.

The UW-College Republicans are again having a bake sale, this Wed on the
HUB lawn. For those of you who are new or don't remember this "bake
sale" is supposedly a tool for "debate" on affirmative action. The idea
is that cookie prices are based on race which is linked to how easy it
is for that race to get into college. Guess where Natives where, last
at .25C

The idea of debate is quite funny, since if you remember last year this
stimulated no debate or even provided a forum for one.

I take that back Anglo-Americans from the Young Democrats had a debate
with Anglo-Americans from the Colege Republicans. No group from the ECC
or ASUW Commissions were invited to my knowledge.

This bake sale is about $$ for the UW-CR's they need press to get
donations. Last year a, justifiably, angry crowd gave them that press
so that people could get riled up about the liberal agenda shutting down
the "political minority".

This year lets give them debate. The Commission is asking you for
personal stories about how affirmative action has helped you and your
families prior to I-200, and how programs like the EOP, ECC, OMA, IC and
others help you today. We are asking you to imagine what it would be
like if these programs were taken away or had never existed.

These stories will be used to give a face to statistics and facts. We
will use these stories, without the names, if you send them to us at
asuwaisc at u.washington.edu .

THIS IS FOR REAL, IF WE DO NOT FIGHT FOR THESE PROGRAMS WE MAY LOSE
THEM. I ask all you, graduates, undergraduates, med students, law
students, faculty, and staff to consider this and send us your stories.
