Fellow AWWA-WEF Student Chapter Members,

We will be having several interesting and topic-related opportunities next week. First off, on Tuesday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm, Doug Berschauer of CH2MHill has graciously offered to come and give a talk on membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment systems. This will take place in More 220, and refreshments will be served. Please try to make this event, as it is a great way to learn about the MBR emerging technology, but also we want to show the Professionals we are excited and thankful for their support.

Also, on Saturday, March 6th, we will be taking a tour of the LOTT MBR facility in Olympia, WA. This will be a great chance to see the technology Doug will be talking about first hand, so RSVP to Chris Stoll (stollc at u.washington.edu) asap if you would like to join the trip. We will be leaving from in front of More hall at 8 am sharp, and will arrive back around 1:30 pm. Transportation will be provided by the chapter.

A resounding “thank-you” goes out to Haizhou Liu and Chris Stoll for organizing these events, and to the other chapter and Professional members who have assisted as well. We are excited to be able to offer these opportunities in conjunction with our academic learning experiences, and look forward to similar events in the spring. Please let myself or other XO officers us know if you are interested in helping to plan further events, which potentially include;

•Bike/camping trip to the San Juan’s to tour a RO treatment facility;
•Service day with an environmental or public-benefit organization;
•and a river rafting trip with the AWRA Student chapter down the Skagit river.

We are also working on putting together an industry night in the spring time. Any help that can be given is much appreciated.

Thanks everyone, and hope to see you all next week!

Regards,
