Hello all!
If you have not signed up for the tournament, disregard the following message.
Message from Gregory
We are in the 3rd week of the Chess Club Competition Ladder tournament and we are starting to get an idea how to order the different players by playing strength. I personally want to thank everyone that has actively participated. It is very satisfying to have a club that offers a competitve game to any player wanting to play someone of their own strength.
This said, some of the members who have signed up for the tournament have not shown up, or written to let us know that they cannot make it. This has caused us a great deal of frustration as my Secretary has had to constantly change our scheduled pairings- our Secretary has had to revise the schedule on a near daily basis to try to handle the no-shows. When players do not show up for their scheduled games, it causes us to look very bad when the opposing player shows up only to find that he or she does not have an opponent to play. After 3 weeks of dealing with this headache, we were forced into scrapping the format of the tournament and changing it to allow for better scheduling flexibility.
I have eliminated the members that signed up for the tournament, but have not written us, or showed up to play. I have cancelled the pending instantchess club accounts for the players who have not shown up or contacted us as well. I need to have confidence that you will use the accounts as we will all lose them if they are not used. Some of the tournament participants wrote and let us know that they want to drop out, and others wrote to let us know that they had scheduling conflicts. If you are one of those members who wrote to us, this message does not apply to you.
I understand that we are a University organization and have tried to be very flexible. We will work with you if you let us know why you can't show. Everyone is still welcome to come to our club and to participate in our events, but we need to have better efforts from a minority of our members. If you have signed up for a club event, you need to communicate with us if you cannot show up. All it takes is an email to let us know. Thanks for your understanding on this matter.
Note: if you were dropped from the tournament, and you want to still participate, we can place you in standby status if you come by during one of our meetings. But I will not re-schedule you for this tournament again.
Prefferred matchups for Nov 8-12:
Marc Vermulst Paul Reeves
Brian Mason David Orendorff
Derek Schlicker Gregory Alexander
Keegan Grady Chris Pleasants
Note: Keegan and Chris are new to the tournament
Division B
Kenneth Liu Max Pedersen
Riley Hansonsmith Alexis Poquiz
Brandon Farrell Kin Au
T.J Stutman Ryan Burt
Alex Fordyce standby.
If you are on standby, still come when you can. You most likely can get a game with another opponent if someone does not show up.
The updated schedule and standings are posted on the website.
Thanks everyone!
Gregory
