Noteworthy in this letter: the tournament has concluded, we will be starting chess instruction next week, new Pacific Northwest College Chess League, and instantchess.com accounts.
The Chess Club Preliminary Tournament has concluded!
After 5 weeks, we have concluded our tournament. We have ranked the following players by game results, strength of schedule, and finally, player participation in their scheduled games. Thanks to everyone for making our tournament a success!
Here is the final standings and order of the competition ladder:
Group Player Win Draw Loss Adjustments Adjourned
1 Marc Vermulst 2 0 0 1
2 Paul Reeves 2 0 0 -1
3 Brian Mason 2 0 1 0
4 Gregory Alexander 2 0 1 0
5 Dave Orendorff 2 0 2 0
6 Chris Pleasants 0 1 1 0
7 Keegan Grady 0 1 2 0
8 Derek Schlicker 0 0 1 -1
Group Player Win Draw Loss P/Pts. Adjourned
1 Kin Au 4 0 1 0
2 Brandon Farrell 2 0 1 0
3 Max Pedersen 2 0 0 -1
4 Kenneth Liu 2 0 2 0 1
5 Ryan Burt 1 0 2 0 1
6 Alex Fordyce 1 0 5 0
7 Riley Hansonsmith 0 0 2 0
8 T.J. Stutman 0 0 1 -1
You might notice that some players are ranked a bit differently than their win loss record. If a player did not show up for their scheduled games or contacted us, the player essentially has forfeited a game.
Now that the tournament is over, we will begin offering chess instruction again beginning next Monday. Brian will be going over tactics, and Gregory will continue teaching basic opening theory. We will have more information regarding chess instruction soon.
Inaugural year of Pacific Northwest College Chess League kicks off
Gregory has been making progress creating a chess league to play other colleges online. We are attempting to recruit local college chess clubs in the Pacific Northwest area for online chess tournaments with the eventual aim to evolve into a regional chess league. The new site is at http://students.washington.edu/chessuw/pnccl/index.html.
If our application is approved by instantchess, we should be receiving our accounts soon. Each active member that showed interest will receive their own account. As soon as we receive final confirmation of our order, we will get back with you. The following members should receive their account soon:
Note: the instantchess accounts are only for active members as they will be used in online tournament play. We cannot order any more accounts as it costs $20 to add or modify the account. The accounts have already been paid for.
Gregory, Brian and Kenneth
