Hi everyone,

First of all, welcome to the (University of) Washington Chess Club emailing list , if you are a new subscriber (we've had a few). If you have any questions, simply email me at olsont4 at uw.edu or ufoundT at comcast.net .

There will be a meeting tonight as usual at 7pm in MEB 235 .

For those of you who don't know, we decide when we hold on-campus tournaments using a voting system on Catalyst. It's open to all persons , even outside the UW, and beginners are especially welcome, given that the tournaments are super casual, also fun. You can vote using the link below (you'll get instructions after clicking):

https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/olsont4/151187

When deciding on our next tournament, it is likely that we will wait until after finals to hold it. Thanks to the new respondents who voted, but unfortunately we still don't have enough of an overlap , mostly because most of you are available on very specific days and because you only selected "one week in advance" on the poll (you should select 1, 2 ,3 , 4 and possibly five all at once). You can always re-vote . We are still very close to having one , should maybe 2 people change their polling answers.

Just to clear something up, if you show up right when the meeting is supposed to start, and no-one is in the room, it is likely that I'm just running late due to unplanned circumstances, and you should wait around at most 15 minutes, or text me at 425-345-9731. Remember we are in MEB 234 OR 235. If we ever cancel (we rarely do), I will send out an email. If you show up to a meeting but end up having to leave since no-one is there, send me an email.

Another thing to clear up: You don't just 'become' a member of Chess Club; your membership is determined by how frequently and drop in and how many meetings you attend throughout the quarter . Anyone can show up to meetings , even if you are not a UW student or faculty member. Not only is the Club a place to play chess, but it also is a great place to talk and just hang out , even if you don't play chess that well per-se (or even not at all!). The meetings are small, but we have fun. Ideally we would like you to come to one meeting per week , and we meet twice a week, Mon 3:40 & Tue 7, for winter quarter. A view of everyone's membership standing (in terms of membership credit) can be found on the ladder page of our website. These numbers will cut in half every quarter's end, rounded up. http://students.washington.edu/chessuw/ladder.php

Thanks, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you at tonight's meeting. Go Dawgs.
