[Dhsvm-users] Re: project_mask

Dear Hart & Sujan,

I think the method of creating the mask as outlined by Hart could lead
to problems when running the model.
The headwater contributing areas (determined in
'createstreamnetwork.aml') might include cells outside the watershed
boundary (as determined from a topo map), and cause an imbalance in
water input and output.

There is something about this in the User Group archives.

I think it is safer to use the ArcInfo GRID commands, as in
'createstreamnetwork.aml':
grid
setwindow %elev%
setcell %elev%
flowdir = flowdirection(%elev%)
	[leaving out here the check for sinks]
wshd = watershed (flowdir,%wshed%)

***

where:	%elev% is the name of your DEM
	%wshed% is the name of the watershed mouth grid (the grid which has one
cell at the watershed outlet with value equal to the DEM elevation at
that cell, and all other cells with value NODATA)

Regards,
Keith Adams.
