Dear English Majors,

Many study abroad programs, particularly exchange programs with foreign
universities, have very early deadlines. If you are considering an
exchange, please do not miss the January 16 deadline. The UW has
exchange relationships with many wonderful institutions of higher
learning around the world. Exchanges with universities in the United
Kingdom are particularly popular and relevant for English majors. Our
students have studied at Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Scotland, and Hull,
Sussex, Bath and England. (We have also sent a considerable number of
students to Oxford and some to Trinity in Ireland, although the UW does
not have exchange relationships with them.) Exchanges with schools in
other Anglophone nations such as Australia and New Zealand are also
increasingly popular. If you have some grounding in a language other
than English, the possibilities are even more numerous. Some programs
even offer introductory instruction in the language of your host nation,
so previous language experience isn't necessary. Check it out!

In addition to exchanges, the UW offers numerous departmental and
