Previous experience with school mentoring and tutoring programs would be
great since the positions involve a lot of work in schools and lots of
contact with the children in the program. These openings are in response to
the expansion of schools and volunteers in the school-based program in both
counties.

*JOB SUMMARY*:

The School Based Coordinator is responsible for matching and providing match
support to ensure

child safety, positive impacts for youth, constructive and satisfying
relationships between

children and volunteers, and a strong sense of affiliation with Big Brothers
Big Sisters serving

King, Pierce & Jefferson Counties on part of the volunteers. This position
will produce positive

outcomes in the following areas: volunteer yield, match closure rate,
frequency of match closures,

average match length, volunteer rematch rate and customer satisfaction.



*JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: *

•

Conduct client enrollments including child interviews, child safety
education, and

enrollment processes.

•

Collaborate with other service delivery staff to ensure smooth transition
among functions.

Identify and eliminate any barriers interfering with the completion of the
enrollment

process.

•

Conduct client reassessments/updates as needed throughout the school year.
Enter and

maintain database changes in addresses, phone numbers, workplaces and other

volunteer/client information.

•

Determine matches and facilitate match meetings in accordance with the
volunteer,

youth, and teacher schedules. Relay match information to parent/guardian.

•

Schedule and facilitate match introduction meeting between volunteer and
youth. Share

duties with Enrollment & Matching Specialist as needed.

•

Administer communication and coordination with School Site Assistant to
establish

mentoring program within school, recruit youth to participate, and assess
individual

match needs as necessary.

•

Through scheduled in-person, telephone and electronic contact, ascertain
that the

elements of child safety, match relationship development, positive youth
development

and volunteer satisfaction are fulfilled and that potential problems and
barriers are

identified and addressed as early as possible. Promptly notify Manager
regarding

concerns, which negatively impact the match.

•

Document and monitor all elements of match support and supervision.

•

Assess individual training needs, information and support needs for each
match

participant to assure a positive youth development experience for the child,
and

successful and satisfying experience for the volunteer.

•

Ensure high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management
knowledge,

policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.

•

Develop strategic interventions to identify and strengthen match
relationships that require

extra support to continue to grow.

•

Assist in developing, marketing two summer activities that offer volunteers
and children

a variety of opportunities for group interaction and agency affiliation.

•

Assist in development of quarterly volunteer newsletter and bi-annual
volunteer trainings.

•

Implement and promote opportunities to support ongoing volunteer involvement
through

individualized recognition, annual events, and reengagement strategies.

•

Establish, monitor and meet goals for match length and customer
satisfaction.

•

Utilize the Program Outcome Evaluation (POE) tool to annually assess match
impact on

youth development. Utilize other evaluation tools as necessary in accordance
with grant

compliance.

•

Conduct exit interviews with all parties at match closure. Assess reasons
for match

closure and re-match or re-engagement potential. When match terminates
pre-maturely or

unexpectedly refer exit interview to Manager for final review and signature.

•

Review all enrollment information and assessments and make recommendations
for

participation in the program based on this information. Assess and apply
factors

contributing to a successful match. Effectively align volunteer interests
and qualifications

with service options of agency.

•

Share with Development and Marketing department staff potential partnership

relationships as discovered through volunteers and parent/guardian's
employers and/or

affiliations.

•

Identify and promote re-engagement of volunteers as Bigs, board members,
donors and in

other volunteer capacities.

•

Assist Activities Coordinator in procuring and distributing items for annual
Back-to-

School Backpack Program.

•

Host year-end match appreciation party at each school site on caseload.
Create and

distribute invitations to matches, procure food items, plan appropriate
activities.

•

Distribute match postcards during summer months.

•

Support two agency fund development events annually.

•

Other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Vice President of Program &
Recruitment.

*JOB QUALIFICATIONS:*

•

Bachelor's degree in social services, human services or related field
preferred or

equivalent related experience

•

Assessment and relational development experience with child and adult
populations

•

Understanding of child development and family dynamics

•

Effectively assess and execute the following relational support skills:
guiding,

supporting, confronting, advising, and/or negotiating

•

Effectively collaborate with other volunteer match staff

•

Ability to collect meaningful data and draw solid conclusions

•

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

•

Access to a reliable automobile, valid driver's license and automobile
insurance

required

•

Able to work independently exercising good judgment, decision making and

problem solving skills

•

Able to succeed in a fast-paced environment required.
