ACLU Complaint Counselor Internships

Presently Accepting Applications

Complaint Counselor internships are available in the legal department of 
the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington Foundation. A 
two-quarter (six‑month) commitment is required, with a minimum of 12 
hours each week. We are currently seeking applicants to intern from 
September 2007 through March 2008.

Interns review and investigate complaints alleging violations of civil 
liberties and assist callers on the ACLU Complaint and Referral Line. 
They workclosely with ACLU legal staff and handle complaints covering a 
broad spectrum of issues, including free speech, student discipline, 
police practices,criminal law, and jail and prison conditions.

Complaint Counselor Interns will learn interview and investigation 
skills, explore a variety of civil liberties and constitutional law 
issues, and become familiar with the work of a wide range of government 
agencies and community organizations. The Complaint Counselor internship 
provides excellent experience for students contemplating careers in 
public service, law, or public policy.

Applicants should have an interest in civil liberties, good 
interpersonal and analytical skills, and excellent writing skills. To
