If you'd like to be on the waiting list for Friday's English Major Skills 
Workshop, please use the Catalyst link below -- we are full for Friday, 
but the waiting list is quite short at this point, so there are some odds 
that spaces may open up!  Many former English majors have listed this 
workshop as the singlemost helpful experience they had as undergrads in 
terms of career exploration and reflection upon their undergraduate 
education as a whole.  Fall is the time to participate -- the workshop is 
not typically offered in winter and spring owing to other sessions we 
offer those quarters (resume writing, interview prep, Career Discovery 
Week, etc.).

ENGLISH MAJORS SKILLS WORKSHOP

"But what can you DO with an English major????"

We've all heard it - the wails of alarm coming from parents and other 
well-wishers who fear that the choice of an English major spells professional 
catastrophe.  After all, studying English doesn't result in any real SKILLS 
that employers want, right?

Wrong.

English majors develop the skills MOST in demand by employers today.  To find 
out what this means for yourself, sign up for one of the upcoming English Major 
Skills Workshops.  The workshop is designed to help students identify and 
articulate their valuable transferable skills. You may have skills, but if 
you're unable to recognize and describe them, they will go unnoticed and 
unappreciated by employers, graduate admissions committees, and that really 
annoying uncle of yours who always said you'd come to no good.

English Major Skills Workshops are offered Autumn Quarter only, so please don't 
miss this chance to get an early start on career development.  Participating in 
Major Skills prepares you for later events, such as Career Discovery Week, the 
April Career Fair, and resume and interview workshops.

Two separate sessions will be held during Fall Quarter. Because these are 
small, interactive workshops, space is limited, and reservations are required. 
Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis:

  * English Major Skills: Friday, October 17, 2008, 12:00pm to 3:00pm 
(FULL, BUT WAITING LIST SPOTS ARE AVAILABLE)

OR

  * English Major Skills: Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 3:30pm to 6:30pm
