If you are considering applying to the Creative Writing option in the
English major, we've learned today that your odds of admission are much
more encouraging than we'd originally expected that they would be. Some
additional sections of upper-division creative writing courses have been
added for next year, so there is room for more new students.
*If you have completed both ENGL 283 and ENGL 284, you should apply NOW*
Applications are due this Friday at 4:00pm, but the deadline has been
extended by the Creative Writing Program until Monday (4/20) at noon. You
should deliver two complete copies of your application, transcripts, and
writing samples to B-25 Padelford Hall by noon on Monday. Details and the
application are available on the web:
http://depts.washington.edu/engl/ugrad/ugapplycw.php.
Any student hoping to be admitted to the Creative Writing pathway should
apply AS SOON AS s/he has completed both ENGL 284 and ENGL 284. There is
no advantage to waiting; in fact, beginning in AUT 2009, access to
300-level courses (ENGL 383 and 384) will be restricted to students
already admitted to the Creative Writing option. Student who are not
admitted the first time may reapply for a later quarter.
If you have questions or would like to chat about your application, please
come by the English Advising office in A-2-B Padelford -- we'll be happy
to talk with you!
Best wishes,
