Martinez Scholars

Martinez Scholarship awards are available to Junior and Senior students who are majoring in Early Childhood and Family Studies or are minoring in Education, Learning and Society and who plan to become teachers. The donors have provided this scholarship for Hispanic/Latino students who meet the criteria above and have financial need. The scholarship award is $7,500, renewable a second year for Juniors. Five students will receive the scholarship award. These students will become Martinez Scholars.

This scholarship is funded annually by the Martinez Foundation, founded by Edgar and Holli Martinez to ensure access to education for all students. The Martinez Foundation has also funded five annual fellowships for students enrolled in the Masters in Teaching program at UW. Martinez Scholars are also eligible for Martinez Fellowships once they are accepted into the MIT program.

Martinez Scholars will receive additional support from the Martinez Foundation and must agree to:

* Allow the Martinez Foundation to promote them as award recipients with name and bio on Martinez Foundation and College of Education website, press releases, print brochures, and by introduction at events that awardees are invited and available to attend.

* Participate in Martinez Foundation surveys and/or research inquiries to help the Foundation learn more about pre-teacher education, and how to shape the Scholarship program to recruit students and meet student needs.

* Meet with Edgar and Holli Martinez (and occasionally, other Foundation supporters) to share their undergraduate education experience and express appreciation to the Scholarship donors.

* Allow the Martinez Foundation to film them during the program, as deemed appropriate, for educational/promotional videos and allow such videos to be available on the Foundation and College website and in promotional videos about the Foundation's work.
