More on Subfield $v

Thankyou for the helpful list of websites. I consulted H1075 and other
pertinent
chapters in the updated LC Subject Cataloging manual about two months ago.
Problems developed when a copy of the Sha document from Missouri was
circulated
amongst our catalogers, who found some of the examples contained therein (e.g.
United States |x Social conditions |y 1980- |v Juvenile literature |v
Bibliography) to be in conflict with the general guidelines outlined in the
Subject Cataloging Manual (shouldn't juvenile literature in the above case
be a
topical subheading, since this is presumably a bibliography about juvenile
literature, not a bibliography in the form of juvenile literature?)

I've taken printouts of the LC educational forum at the ALA midwinter, the U
Mississippi memo, the Schiff training material and am passing it on to our
catalogers. I only wish I had access to this material two months ago!!

Thanks again!
