[Enhance] Why did you join the Enhance program?

Hi Sevim,
I got involved because I really believe in the principals of cooperative
cataloging. I was upgrading a lot of records in our local system and
felt it was important to get that information into OCLC. I pestered
different people at my institution over and over until I finally
completed all of the training necessary to get my library authorized as
an Enhance library. I can honestly say it is the thing I am most proud
of in my entire career.
I continue to stay involved because I figure I'm doing the work anyway,
why not do it in OCLC so everyone can benefit from it? Also, I think
it's actually in some ways quicker and easier because OCLC is easier to
catalog in than our local system. And the macros in OCLC are great. I
have even tried to encourage other staff in my unit to Enhance records
(subject to my approval, of course.) I have had some success but not as
much as I would like. They are still rather intimidated by the process.
Thanks for asking!
Isabel
