PLEASE read this even if you were at the meeting as its slightly more
detailed and has more info....

Hey folks,

For those who couldn't make it or for those who need a reminder about our
last meeting, here is a hefty e mail for your reading pleasure.

WINTER QUARTER CLASS: Please register for ESS 490: Special Topics. Add codes
will be given out by Stu McCallum. IMPORTANT: Please keep checking the
registration page, because we're not sure when this class will actually
appear and don't ask for an add code until you see this class on the time
schedule. Most likely this thing will get posted before late registration
fees take into effect, but if not, I think we can waive them somehow. This
will be a 2 credit class, held once a week in the evening. The class will
probably not be held the first couple weeks of the quarter so we can find a
time that works for everyone. So go ahead and figure out your schedule, and
we'll get back to times and days later. Maybe we can all keep Mondays or
Tuesdays open and narrow it down from there? The first few lectures will be
about general Hawaii geology, and after that students will be presenting on
various topics until the end of the quarter.

PAYING FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP: In general, the process will be: We book
the trip through Council Travel on the ave, the department and geoclub pays
for part of it, then you go into the travel agent and pay the rest. More
updates on this as soon I get the exact info. Please plan ahead for paying
the rest of the bill though, and soon. Suzie and I will probably book this
in the next week or so, and you may have to pay within the next few weeks.

HOLIDAY/WINTER PARTY THING: Mark your calender for Thursday, December 6th @
3:30. JHN 011.

FUNDRAISING/RAFFLE STUFF:

No one should be slacking on this. Everyone needs to make an effort to do
their part!

Donation People: Please gather 1-2 big items or 3 small items by
Thanksgiving Break. See donation idea list (attached). It may be a time
saver to call or e mail a business before hand. Explain we're taking an
education field course and are looking for donations to raffle off.
(Unfortunately, we can't make these tax deductible in case they ask).
****Please make sure we're all communicating via word of mouth so 2
businesses aren't getting hit up twice. We can store this stuff in the
GeoClub office when you need us to. Again, please have these by Thanksgiving
Break.

Ticket Sellers: Sell at least 25 tickets before the party. How to sell
ticket: 1) find someone to sell to 2) take their money 3) have them write
their name on the back of the ticket 4) you keep ticket! 5) Keep tally of
professors tickets. 6) don't loose anything.
Sell, sell, sell! Anyone is game, but really try to hit up faculty. We'd
like to make it a big competition this year, so when you sell to a faculty
member, write down their name and how many tickets they bought. Please let
me know this tally every so often (weekly?). My goal is to egg on the ticket
selling by tallying up tickets on a big poster outside the mail room.
Tickets will sell for $2 each, so by the end make sure you have $50! And you
can always sell more than 25. Please give Eli this money after the party.

***Please let Eli or Dyan know via e mail if you choose to be a donation
person or a ticket seller person.

T SHIRTS: This will be available soon - maybe a couple weeks or so. Get one
for yourself then sell them to your parents, neighbors, the guy who lives on
your couch, even your pet rock. The more shirts we sell, the better.

NEXT MEETING: Probably early December, on a Wednesday, hopefully with
another bad movie! (Ps- if you didn't see TROG, boy you missed out....that
was the best worst movie ever, thanks Peter).

Questions? I have answers..e mail me.

Thanks you guys....

Dyan
