[Foodplanning] Amending the comprehensive plan

Hello all,

I'm happy to be a new member of this listserve. I founded the Portland
Multnomah Food Policy Council and co-chaired it until January of this year.
Now I'm working on a project I started while chairing the Council - a pilot
food planning process in a low-income Portland neighborhood. Part two of
this work will include developing strategies for incorporating food planning
into the City's overall planning process. We are interested in making
strategic changes to the city's comprehensive plan to further food access
and to strengthen the capacity of the local food system.

I am not a planner, but I imagine that comprehensive plans vary widely. In
particular, Portland's land use planning system is more extensive than most.
That said, I wonder if anyone on this list has had experience trying to
amend comprehensive plans to promote food security and might perhaps have
words of wisdom on best approaches. For example, where are the best
opportunities to make these changes and is there sample language available
that has been effective?

Many thanks,

Rosemarie Cordello
