Hi everyone:

I'm a member of the Ontario Public Health Association's food security
workgroup, who asked me to post a message to CAFS as we are wanting to
respond to the Ontario College of Family Physicians 'Report on Public
Health and Urban Sprawl in Ontario: a review of the pertinant
literature' to encourage them to consider the impact of sprawl on the
food system.  The four main themes discussed in the report are air
pollution, road injuries & fatalities, obesity & social & mental health.

The group is looking for evidence to bring to the attention of the
Ontario College in relation to loss of farmland to sprawl & impact on
the food system, along with impact of the food system (how people obtain
food ie in relation to box stores & distance travelled) on health.  The
intent is to raise the issue of the food system in relation to health as
its own concern (you can argue it is related to each of the themes of
the report but the group wants to see it as having its own profile). 
Any recent literature, preferably Canadian, you can point us to would be
appreciated.
