the abstract. Also have you seen the article in The Economist which
also argues against "local" as economically sustainable? Wayne Roberts
wrote an interesting rebuttal in his weekly column of the Toronto Now

I thought I'll mention to everyone, in case you have missed it, a new
article that could provoke some good discussion, co-authored by our list
moderator: Branden Born and Mark Purcell, "Avoiding the Local Trap:
Scale and Food Systems in Planning Research," Journal of Planning
Education and Research, vol. 26, no. 2 (Winter 2006): 195-207. This
provocative new article could - and should! - generate some debate, as
it argues strongly against the assumption that "eating local food is
more ecologically sustainable and socially just". I look forward to any
