A new USDA report finds that households with incomes below 130 percent
of the poverty line spend increased income on beef and frozen prepared
foods rather than on fruits and vegetables, potentially for reasons of
taste and convenience. Only households with incomes greater than 130
percent of the poverty line spend more money on fruits and vegetables
when their incomes increase. See Are Lower Income Households Willing
and Able To Budget for Fruits and Vegetables? by Hayden Stewart and
Noel Blisard. Economic Research Report No. (ERR-54) 29 pp, January
2008. http://www.ers.usda.gov/publications/err54/
