1.  Another example of the network at work!
2.  Notice this description - It lllks as though they are looking for the
ultimate Renaissance Human, who can do EVERYthing, but notice also that they
are willing to settle for  "candidates with an impressive array of these
skills and experiences."   As with many job descriptions, the perfect person
may not exist -- SO if you have most, but not all, the skills asked for in a
job description, apply anyway -- you STILL may have all the skills they
need, bottom line.

POSITION AVAILABLE: NATURAL RESOURCE SCIENTIST

The Natural Heritage Institute (NHI) is recruiting for both a senior and
associate natural resource scientist in our expanding science and planning
practice. One position will be filled immediately.  The successful
applicant(s) will work in the following project activities.

 Identify, model, and analyze conjunctive water management opportunities in
California.
 Plan multi-disciplinary fishery, wetland, and riverine restoration
projects in California.
 Analyze demographic data from rural areas in Mexico, Brazil, and Chile and
evaluate for correlation with arid land degradation patterns.
 Analyze alternative flood management opportunities in California.
 Analyze physical watershed processes and develop watershed management
plans.
 Conduct river basin planning in Southern Africa, Latin America and the
Middle East
 Negotiate habitat conservation plans under the Endangered Species Act.

Desired Skills and Experience

 Knowledge of Central Valley groundwater hydrology and hydrogeologic
sciences
 Familiarity with Central Valley water infrastructure and surface
hydrology.
 Ability to run numerical models, particularly standard hydrologic models.
 GIS analysis and modeling – fluency with ArcView, Avenue, and Spatial
Analyst
 Digital spatial data and collection skills.
 Graphic and cartographic presentation skill.
 Demonstrated library and web research skills.  Ability to download and
process data.
 Spanish language proficiency.
 Aptitude and desire to initiate high-impact projects around the candidates
skills and interests

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must: 1) demonstrate exceptional writing skills, 2) have 3-5
years of relevant experience; and (3) possess a graduate degree in ecology,
hydrology, physical sciences, engineering, environmental planning,
geography, environmental science or a related field.   In recognition that
no candidate will posses all of the desired skills and experience enumerated
