Position Description:
The incumbent will be responsible for digital soil map finishing site
activities and coordinating with NRCS national technical experts.
Supervises a map finishing staff of approximately 6 to 8 people. Performs
as the ArcInfo technical expert in data format conversion,
Tables/INFO, ArcEdit,
ArcPlot, and AML development.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants will not be required to take a
written examination, but will be rated on the extent and quality of their
education and/or experience according to information provided in
their
application forms. To be rated eligible, applicants must meet one of the
Basic Requirements and one of the Additional Requirements described below.

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
You must have successfully completed the requirements for a bachelor's or
higher degree with a major in cartography, or related major that includes
or is supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography

and/or directly related sciences, and related mathematics.  Such course
work must include cartography, photogrammetry, computer science, land
surveying,  physical geography, social science and remote sensing.  The 30
semester hours must include at least 6, but no more than 15, semester

hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e.,
college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics

or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisite).
 OR
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience which includes
courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or other related major that
included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in

cartography, and/or directly related sciences, and related mathematics, as
shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional qualifying
education.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: In order to be qualified for this
position, you must possess the following knowledge, skills, or
abilities:

(1) Skill in ArcInfo including data format conversion, tables/info,
ArcEdit, ArcPlot and AML.
(2) Knowledge of Unix or Windows NT operating systems.
(3) Knowledge of natural resource management.

In addition, you must possess at least one full year of specialized
experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-7 grade level
in the Federal Service. This specialized experience must have included
utilizing the concepts, theories, and principles of photogrammetry, remote
sensing, cartography, geography, geographic information systems, mapping
systems and their application to ecosystem management, resource inventory,
and land management planning.
 OR
Have two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to
a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in cartography
or directly related field.  This graduate level study must have provided
the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of
this position.
 OR
Have an equivalent combination of graduate education and specialized
experience.   Only progressively higher level graduate study beyond one
year may be used to meet this combination.
