Wow: an actual planning job (applicaton deadlin expired, but, still...) that
mentions geography by name as a qualifying major AND doesn't call for a
super-GIS skillset (though facility w/GIS certainly wouldn't hurt). Some
good language here to think about using on resumes....

                                ASSOCIATE PLANNER
                                Regional Growth & Transportation Planning

                                The Puget Sound Regional Council is seeking
applicants to
                                provide policy and technical support on
growth management
                                issues. Duties include, but are not limited
to, growth management
                                policy analysis and research assistance;
growth management
                                strategy development; preparation of reports
and maps related
                                to regional urban form; preparation of
agency correspondence;
                                and staff support for boards, committees and
conferences.

                                The successful candidate will have:

                                     Knowledge of growth management planning
principles
                                     and practices and data management.
                                     Ability to synthesize a wide variety of
technical and policy
                                     information.
                                     Excellent writing, communication skills
and computer
                                     proficiency required.
                                     Ability to work effectively with the
general public, other
                                     agencies, and agency staff.
                                     Knowledge of and experience with local
and regional
                                     planning.
                                     Technical skill with spreadsheets and
relational databases.
                                     Knowledge of the Washington State
Growth
                                     Management Act is preferred.
                                     Knowledge of transit-supportive land
use and
                                     development strategies is desirable.

                                Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in
urban planning,
                                public administration, geography, or related
field, plus at least
                                one year planning experience, or any
combination of education
                                and experience which would provide the
applicant with the
                                desired skills, knowledge and ability
required to perform the job.

                                ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $35,800 to
$48,000/year.
