New Jobs List - Jobs for Geographers - you're on!

Greetings and Welcome, all of you!

If all goes well, we will be splitting the geogu-listserv into two
different
information sets. We'll keep the Geography Advising News (including
internship information) on the old geogu-listserv and we'll switch job- and
career-related information (including Kate's Career Tips - free!!) to the
new Jobs for Geographers list, which we'll call Geogjobs for short.

That way, even if you want to remain on both lists, you don't have to do
anything, AND you'll have an easier way to tell job-and-career-related
material apart from advising news.

To start, we are simply adding everyone to the Geogjobs listserv, so you all
will continue getting all messages coming out of the Geography Department.

If you receive two copies of this message (one through geogu-l and one
through geogjobs) you have successfully made it onto both lists and this is
the last duplicate message you should get.

If you really want to get off one or the other listserv, you have to do it
yourself, but the directions are easy. You can find them at
http://www.washington.edu/computing/listproc/subscribers/subscribe.html
And, in case you don't want to go there, here they are for you:

Decide which list you want to get off (unsubscribe to), and using your usual
email system, send an email to listproc at u.washington.edu
Put nothing in the subject line, but in the text body of the message, type:

unsubscribe geogu-l

or

unsubscribe geogjobs

That's it. After you send it, you then should receive a confirmation from
the listproc machine that you've been removed from the list.

Note: A few people have had trouble getting off geogu-l because they typed
it with a 1 at the end, but it really is an l (an "ell"? -- Ahem, a
lowercase "L"). Let me know if it doesn't work (but we really hope it does.)

Please do let us know more of what you want to hear about in the new Jobs
for Geographers Listserv. Because it is new and it's content hasn't "jelled"
yet, we're open to suggestions. Tell us what you find most helpful.
On the new geogjobs, we plan to send out all the job listings that wind up
here, Kate's Career Tips (free!!) and any related information (like good job
search websites) we can find. Realize that we can't spend all our time
looking for jobs for you, but we're happy to relay any information we
receive.

On the original geogu-listserv, we plan to continue sending all Advising
News concerning courses and requirements, Departmental news and
announcements, relevant campus events and information on internships.

We hope this helps solve at least part of the problem of information
overload for you. If not, talk to us - even email us.

Cheers and best wishes,
