This week's lecture:

Tues, 1 Feb., 12:30-1:20, 204 Balmer:

BARBARA LITHER, Esq. on SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS STRATEGIES
Senior Policy Advisor
USEPA Region 10
1200 Sixth Ave. OI-085
Seattle, WA 98101

"Sustainable Business Strategies ... Green Business Strategies ...
Environmentally Friendly Business Strategies. How about just plain smart
Business Strategies? Come and hear reasons why you, as business leaders
of the future, are going to lead the change towards sustainability in the
new millenium."

Having served as an environmental regulatory attorney for over 16 years,
including 6 years as head of EPA's regional enforcement office, Ms. Lither
is very familiar with command-and-control approaches to environmental
protection. After an Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship studying
environmental protection in emerging democracies, Ms. Lither shifted her
thinking to emphasize the business leadership approach to environmental
protection. She is now working on sustainable business strategies for the
business community, including The Natural Step, ISO 14000 and other
approaches. Most recently, she helped develop an interactive CD-ROM on
Sustainability for EPA Region 10 with a specific segment for the business
sector.
