Dear Geography majors:
Linda Wasson has gotten a fellowship to continue her Vietnamese studies in
France, so please come in and meet our two new undergraduate advisers in
Smith 415-B, Angela Leung and David Abernathy. Angela is actually Linda's
permanent replacement, and David will also be filling in this quarter (He
is also teaching Geog 335, 277 and 230 for us this year). By way of
introducing themselves, Angela and David write as follows:
Angela Leung: A former HUSKY, graduated in 1998 majoring in
Geography. I am a 2nd year graduate student in the
Geography department. My research interests are urban
economic development, international business and
structural change, particularly in Greater China (Hong
Kong, Mainland China, and Taiwan) and Pacific Asia.
Currently, I am doing research on China's Entry to the
WTO. My office is Smith 415A, right by Rick's office.
My advising office hours are mainly in the morning
between 8:30am and 10:00am, Mon thru Thursday, with
additional hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
Please feel free to stop by wheneven you have
questions in your academic career!
David Abernathy: David recently completed his PhD in the geography
department and is serving as a part-time lecturer this academic year. His
research interests focus on medical geography, with particular emphasis on
international development and urbanization. He will be teaching 277
(geography of cities) in the winter, and 230 (urbanization in developing
nations) in spring. He will be working part-time in the advising office
during fall quarter, while Rick perfects his split-finger fastball. David
eats grits, has a dog named Hershey and remembers a time when nobody in
red square was on the phone. He will be in Smith 415 B Monday and
Wednesday afternoons between 1-4.
