Winter, 2002 Preview. We now have copies of our course descriptions for
Winter Quarter, as well as a list of recommended related courses in other
departments. Registration begins Nov. 9.

1   Exciting New, Revised,  or Rarely-Offered Courses:
Geog 123, Introduction to Globalization (Matt Sparke); Geog 230,
Urbanization and Development: Geographies of Global Inequality (Vicky
Lawson), Geog 367, Economic Uses of Geographic Information (J.W.
Harrington) and Geog 401, Culture, Capital & The City  (Banu Gokariksel;

2   Wide Range of Offerings On Globalization, Immigration, and
Inequality. Winter will see a very diverse group of courses related to
several keywords that seem especially relevant in the wake of the
September 11 tragedy: globalization, immigration, and inequality. These
courses include Geog 123, 230, and 401 (see above), as well as Geog 270,
Consumption, Nature, and Globalization (Nayna Jhaveri), and Geog 310,
Immigrant America (Mark Ellis).

3	Environment & Health Courses: Geog 270 (see above); Geog 380,
Geographical Patterns of Health and Disease(Jonathan Mayer), Geog 471,
Methods of Resource Analysis (Craig ZumBrunnen), and Geog 480 ,
Environmental Geography, Climate & Health (Jonathan Mayer).
