POSITION TITLE: UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE PLANNING INTERNS
Department of Planning and Community Development

CLOSING DATE: Open until filled - Applications will be reviewed as they are

SALARY: $11.00/hour undergraduate level
$13.00/hour graduate level

HOURS OF WORK: Hours are flexible, with up to 20 hours per week.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The City's Department of Planning and Community
Development has an immediate opening for two Planning Interns. The
Department will select the individuals depending on qualifications,
experience, and availability. Two positions will be filled. The position is
available until summer of 2004, with the possibility of an extension.

AREA DESCRIPTION: The City of Kirkland has a population of approximately
45,000 and is located on the eastern shores of lake Washington. As with many
Puget Sound jurisdictions, the City is facing rapid growth and development
pressures. The City enjoys a reputation for creative and responsible growth
management strategies.

POSITION SUMMARY: The positions will perform a variety of long range and
current planning tasks. The selected individuals should have experience or
an interest in one or more of the following areas: (1) preparing
presentation graphics; (2) conducting data collection; and (3) proofreading
and editing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Working toward a degree in Urban Planning,
Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field.
Excellent written skills are required with preference given to individuals
with graphics and computer skills (Windows Office suite).
