Subject: Edmonds student intern opportunity

The City of Edmonds has openings for up to two student interns, effective the beginning of January, 2004. These are paid intern positions with the Edmonds Planning Division. Projects to be undertaken will be related to the 2004 updates of the City's Comprehensive Plan and Critical Areas regulations. The work to be performed will primarily be GIS-related office work and some field work (land use inventory and similar field projects). Software used is primarily ARC/GIS and Microsoft Office applications; all are in the MS/Windows environment. Pay is on an hourly basis, and is approximately $10-$11/hour.

In the past, students have worked together on projects, so that there is a team approach. Supervision and some training is provided by City staff, but students are expected to have sufficient experience with ARC/GIS to be able to need relatively little training to begin working with data and maps -- and to be able to use ESRI training and reference materials to "find the answer" as needed. In addition to the project maps and data files, past interns have produced reports summarizing their work and providing documentation of the techniques and methods employed.

Duration of internship and hours are flexible, but we prefer an average of 10-20 hours per week. More hours may be worked during school vacations or during the Summer, for example.

Interested students should contact Robert Chave at the City of Edmonds Planning Division. Inquiries may be done via email, phone, or postal mail.

The City employment application form is accessible via the City's website:

http://www.ci.edmonds.wa.us/Job%20Openings/jobs.htm

A personal interview will be required prior to hire.
