(4)      JOB DESCRIPTION:  The student in this position will be working for
King County Department of Executive Services, Office of Emergency
Management, in the E-911 Program Office.  The office is located at Boeing
Field,  7300 Perimeter Rd. S., Room # 128, Seattle.  The office is
approximately 10 - 15 minutes from downtown via Hwy  99  or  I-5, (free
parking is a plus).  The King County E-911 Program Office is looking to hire
a student as a 911 Mapping Technician.  The qualified candidate will provide
technical support, data accumulation, management, and GIS analysis of the
King County Enhanced 9-1-1 database and GIS software system. This is
predominately office work involving the geo-coding of site addresses for the
King County 911 system.  In support of this GIS function this person will
interact with Communications Center personnel and may spend some time in the
field gathering data.



(5)     EDUCATIONAL  BENEFITS  TO  BE  DERIVED  BY  STUDENTS  IN  THIS  JOB:
Student will have first hand experience in GIS as applied in the field of
Enhanced 911.  Student will also formulate a better understanding of how GIS
is currently being applied in the area of emergency management to help find
911 wireless and wireline phone callers, and potentially help save lives.



(6)     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must be currently enrolled in a
school program, with interest in a GIS, Geography, Planning, or a related
field.   Knowledge of ArcView is highly desirable.  Experience in data
conversion to ESRI shape files from various GIS and CAD formats of differing
datum's and projection is desirable. Familiarity with Public Safety, GIS
applications, geo-coding street centerlines, or Visual Basic is also
beneficial for this position.   Qualified candidate would be detail oriented
and have excellent, English speaking and writing skills, a strong work
ethic, and the ability to meet deadlines. Must also be computer/PC literate
(Microsoft suite of products). Interest in computer information systems,
Geographic Information Systems (GIS), E-911 and/or Emergency Management is
also desirable. Applicants should be self-motivated and dependable, enjoy
working in diverse environments and ability to interact effectively with
staff. Qualified student must also have good driving record and valid
Washington State drivers license.
