City of Redmond Planning Department
Volunteer Internship – Summer 2006

The City of Redmond Planning Department is seeking a candidate for a volunteer internship for Summer 2006 to assist with the reformatting of maps for the Redmond Comprehensive Plan.

Project Description
Redmond's Comprehensive Plan is undergoing a significant format change.  As part of this effort, all maps will be reformatted.  An intern will use a template created by Planning staff to produce maps for the new document.  The project is will likely wrap up in mid-August to mid-September.

The successful candidate will utilize ArcView 3.2 and Freehand 10 in order to extract existing map details.  They will then utilize predefined templates in order to recreate and enhance all maps.  Team-based and independent work tasks will be required.  There may be opportunities for leadership and presentations in small to large group settings.

Redmond's Planning Department is the recipient of the Governor's Smart Communities Award 2006, Commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Growth Management Act, for the latest five-year update to the plan.  http://qa.cted.wa.gov/portal/alias__CTED/lang__en/tabID__392/DesktopDefault.aspx

Desired Qualifications
•	Experience working with ESRI's ArcMap 9.1  
•	Knowledge of ArcView 3.2 and Freehand 10 a plus
•	General network navigation skills
•	Use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook
•	Ability to work well with others
•	Availability for approximately 20 hours per week
