Intercity Transit is the municipal agency that provides public
transportation for people who live and work in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and
Yelm, an area of approximately 94 square miles. We operate bus routes,
door-to-door service for people with disabilities, a vanpool program,
specialized van programs, and are active in community partnerships.

that support an accessible, sustainable, livable, and prosperous community.

Intercity Transit is currently seeking a Sustainability Intern. The Intern
will support the objectives and further the mission of the Intercity Transit
Sustainability Program. The Intern will work under the direction of the
Director of Maintenance and the General Manager, and will also receive
direction from and work with other agency staff including the Director of
Operations and the Facilities Manager. This is a non-permanent internship
position expected to last for three (3) months, 40 hours/week. Hiring wage
is $17.50/hour, and internship is not eligible for employee benefits.
Internship is expected to begin in early July. 

Internship RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES include assisting Intercity Transit staff
in: 

. Documenting existing Sustainability measures and recent actions and
assessing their effectiveness. 
. Developing and documenting a baseline inventory of Intercity Transit's
greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy usage, and waste production, as
well as researching potential programs and policies to reduce such. 
. Developing and documenting a baseline inventory of energy usage and
greenhouse gas production resulting from employees commuting to and from
work. 
. Analyzing the American Public Transportation Association's Sustainability
initiative and determining the level of commitment appropriate for Intercity
Transit. 
. Revising Intercity Transit's Sustainability policy as needed. 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS 

. Current education that includes studies in environmental issues,
sustainability, or public administration preferred. 
. Strong writing, research, and communication skills as demonstrated through
professional experience. 
. Willingness to learn about the principles of sustainability and
environmental stewardship. 
. Interest in energy technologies, renewable energy, and conservation
practices preferred. 
. Must be willing to submit to a post-job-offer employment-related physical
examination, the results of which must meet the agency's hiring criteria.
This exam is paid for by Intercity Transit.
