Dear Advisers,

Please forward the message below to your students as appropriate. This
course has not yet found it's way into the timeschedule, but it will be
there soon! In the meantime, students will need to email me some information
to be admitted to the course, and add codes will be distributed when
available.

This course offers an excellent opportunity for students engaged in public
sector or non-profit internships to contextualize their internship within
their academic work, make connections between their internship and future
professional goals, and interact with other students engaged in internships
in this sector. Perhaps most exciting--this course will be comprised of
students from Waseda University in Japan who are spending an academic year
at UW and are engaged in public sector internships, as well as matriculated
UW sudents. This will allow us to begin to explore what "public sector" and
"non-profit" mean locally, nationally and globally.

Interested students should view the description below and follow up with me
via email with any questions.

Thank you in advance for forwarding this on.

General Studies 349
Working in Community: Making Connections through a Non-Profit Internship

Are you engaged in a non-profit or public sector internship? Interested in
exploring your internship work in the context of community action,
professional development, academic inquiry, and your personal growth? This
course allows you to come together with fellow students from Waseda
University in Japan to contextualize your internship work. As a compliment
to your internship work, you will learn about different types of non-profit
environments (locally and globally), make connections to your academic work,
explore learning opportunities in the context of your internship, and apply
this knowledge to future academic and personal planning.

Interested? This course meets on Wednesdays from 1:30-4:20 pm.

Email Rachel Vaughn at rvaughn at u.washington.edu for more information! In
your email, please include your name, class standing, current internship
involvement, and 2 primary goals for this class.
