The UW School of Nursing has an opportunity for a Director of International
Programs to direct international affairs of the School of Nursing, including
development of School policy on international affairs; development of School
funding and strategic planning for international programs; and oversight of all
international visits to and from the School. This position will:
Lead the School's international affairs. Develop inter-disciplinary programming
in international settings. Determine and implement methods and policies for
promoting the interests of the School of Nursing vis-à-vis international visits
to community organizations, facilitating community participation in
international exchanges, and laying the groundwork for future School-community
partnerships. Foster and manage School collaborations with University-wide
international programs. Advise the Dean, faculty, and students about
international travel. Develop School funding and strategic planning for
international programs, including: international exchange budgets, development
of new initiatives in international exchange, initiating regular proposals to
the Office of the Provost to secure funding for new and ongoing international
exchanges and programs, and coordinating School and faculty proposals.
Oversee all international visits to and from the School of Nursing.Plan visits
to the School. Facilitate orientation to the School, University, and country.
Problem-solve, using extensive knowledge of federal, state, and University
policies and procedures. Advise visiting graduate students, matriculated
students, and international students. Collaborate with department chairpersons
to identify faculty sponsors. Contact potential faculty sponsors, invite
scholars to the School, and oversee allocation of resources to support visitors
during their stay. Evaluate, develop, modify, and implement effective
mechanisms for support of international students. Oversee Citizens of the
World Scholar travel awards program.
Develop School policy on international affairs, and interpret/advise about
University, State, and Federal policies on international affairs. Independently
establish, lead, and guide the Advisory Committee on International Exchanges
for the purpose of determining and implementing School policy regarding
international affairs. Identify strategic issues and make recommendations.
Revise and update guidelines for visiting scholars.
The School of Nursing endeavors to advance and preserve knowledge about human
health and to promote the health and well-being of diverse individuals,
families and communities. The Dean's office seeks staff able to assist in
meeting this mission by providing service to faculty, staff, students, and the
community within a context of excellence and caring.
Requirements:
Minimum qualifications include Bachelors degree in international studies or
related field PLUS three years experience working with international students
and exchanges, including knowledge of international and US visas, University
regulations, and cultural factors OR equivalent education/experience. Able to
independently prioritize with minimal direction. High level of organization and
professionalism. Excellent communication, orally and in writing, with a wide
variety of people, including speakers of English as a second language,
government officials, visiting dignitaries, and international students. Strong
PC computer skills.
Desired:
Familiarity with the UW. Personal experience living abroad, specifically as an
exchange participant. Knowledgeable about nursing as a discipline, including
global health issues, similarities/differences in nursing education and
practice.
