The World Health Cinema and UW Common Book Present:

"Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna)"

"Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna)" centers on a young boy's journey across the U.S./Mexico border to be reunited with his mother. Adrian Alonso stars as Carlitos, a Mexican adolescent living with his grandmother while his mother works as a maid in the U.S., hoping someday to send for her child. But when the grandmother dies
unexpectedly, Carlitos must sneak across the border and seek out his mother. Under the Same Moon premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.

World Health Cinema (Global Health Resource Center, Department of Global Health & UW Libraries) is a global health film and discussion series which addresses issues relevant to the interdisciplinary nature of global health.

Douglas Young is the Fleming Professor of Medical Microbiology at Imperial College London and Head of the Division of Mycobacterial Research at the UK National Institute for Medical Research. He leads an international consortium to develop drugs for treatment of latent TB as part of the Gates Foundation programme to tackle Grand Challenges in Global Health. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation and of the steering committee of the European TB Vaccine Initiative. He coordinates a Wellcome Trust project to study bovine TB in Ethiopia, and chairs a TB Vaccine Programme Advisory Group for the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Prof Young is the author of over 100 scientific articles on tuberculosis and leprosy, is co-Editor-in-Chief of Tuberculosis, and a member of the Editorial Boards of Cellular Microbiology, Journal of Bacteriology, and Infection and Immunity. His current research focuses on use of genome biology to study mechanisms of mycobacterial pathogenicity.
