I'm passing on a note from Chris Behrens, Medical Director at I-TECH:
Greetings -
Today, March 24, is World TB Day, a day designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in developing countries.
March 24th commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus.
I am very pleased to announce that today we are launching the I-TECH TB Prevention Toolkit, which aims to assist facility-level clinicians and administrators in implementing the "3 I's" of TB prevention among people living with HIV/AIDS: TB Infection Control; Intensified Case Finding; and Isoniazid Preventive Therapy. The Toolkit exists online at http://www.tbpreventiontoolkit.org, and we will also be burning the toolkit onto CD-ROMs for distribution as we have done with other I-TECH toolkits.
I have attached a press release regarding this release, please feel free to share it with colleagues who might be interested.
Special thanks and credit to Tom Heller and Moses Bateganya, who did the 'heavy lifting' in terms of assembling most of the content for the toolkit; to Vickery Prongay, Letitia Reason, and Francie Petracca for the CQI section; and to Alex McGee and Laura Anderson for their work in editing and web design. We are also indebted to the Curry International TB Center at UCSF for their invaluable advice & assistance.
Chris
