The University of Washington Minority Law Student Association is
pleased to announce the kick off of the 'Race and the Law Series' this
Friday in which we have invited Professor Steven Bender from
University of Oregon Law.
APPROVED FOR 2.0 CLE CREDIT
When: Friday, March 6, 2009 12:30-2:30
Where: University of Washington School of Law , William H. Gates Hall, Room 133
Cost: $25 for those wanting CLE credit; FREE everyone else.

He will discuss his upcoming book 'Tierra y Libertad: Land, Liberty
and Latino Housing' in which he examines both the history and current
state of Property, Property Rights, and Housing as they intersect with
Latina/os in the United States. Specifically Professor Bender will
examine several policy issues surrounding housing law reforms for
affordable housing.
Professor Bender is the James and Ilene Hershner Professor of Law and
the Director of Portland Programs at OU Law. He currently serves as
co-chair of Latina Latino Critical Legal Theory Inc.(LatCrit), and is
the co-president elect of Society of American Law Teachers (SALT).
He has taught courses in:
Commercial Law , Contracts, Ethics in Business Transactions, Property,
Real Estate Planning, Secured Land Transactions, and Latinos and the
Law.
Prof. Bender's has authored and coauthored 7 books and numerous law
review articles. His scholarship includes:
Greasers and Gringos: Latinos, Law and the American Imagination (NY
University Press 2003),
One Night in America: Robert Kennedy, Cesar Chavez, and the Dream of
Dignity (Paradigm Publishers 2007),
Several casebooks on Real Estate
And this spring his most recent article entitled 'Knocked Down Again:
An East L.A. Story on the Geography of Color and Colors' will appear
in the Harvard Latino Law Review.
