[iDiversity] FW: [QFS] Please forward widely: Participate in Trans Day of Remembrance!

It's appalling that transgender folks are still being killed simply because of who they are. Last year Lateisha Green was killed in Syracuse, NY, and Duanna Johnson in Memphis. The first Day of Remembrance was held ten years ago after the brutal murder of Rita Hester inside her Boston apartment.

Subject: [QFS] Please forward widely: Participate in Trans Day of Remembrance!

Hello Everyone!

In honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance the Q Center will be hosting several events on campus. TDOR is dedicated to memorializing those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. We at the Q Center are looking for volunteers to participate in the following events.

On November 20th (Friday) the Q Center's conference room will be open from 9am-5:30pm and set aside as a quiet remembering space.

Also on the 20th, there will be two main events, which we hope you and all your friends will be involved in:

1) Red Square "die-in" - meet at noon in front of the obelisk sculpture. The Die-in will take place at 12:20. If you're interested in being apart of this event, please come wearing dark clothing and check this page for updates. The die-in will happen in two locations (Red Square and the HUB lawn) and take around thirty minutes total.

2) Evening candlelight vigil - 6pm - The vigil will take place at Montlake and Pacific, in front of the University of Washington entrance stairs.

Also, please check for updates on a panel we will be hosting called "Working towards Justice from a Place of Grief" which will be held on Thursday November 19th at the Ethnic Cultural Theater, the event will be in the evening.

Please check http://depts.washington.edu/qcenter/ for updates.

If you're interested in being apart of the Red Square "die-in" please e-mail me with your name and contact information.

Day of contact person: Kai Kohlsdorf (513)-225-7498

We hope to see you all there!

Best wishes,

Mae Wiskin
q center administrative assistant
