> ECC COMMUNITY SOCIAL: HUMP DAY

>

> Hump Day is the big social event of the Quarter! Come celebrate getting over the “hump” of the school year and the ECC staff show its appreciation to all of you. It’s a chance to gather as a community, eat something sweet, enjoy music, and play a game of scrabble.

> FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: DR. RALINA JOSEPH

>

> Please join us for this exclusive conversation! Dr. Joseph is broadly interested in contemporary representations of race, gender, and sexuality in the United States. She recently completed her book manuscript, “Transcending Blackness: Reading Mixed-Race African American Representations in the New Millennium.” Transcending Blackness critiques anti-black racism in 1998-2008 era pop culture representations of multiracial African Americans in television, lm, the internet, and a memoir. This year, with the support of the Ford Foundation and the Woodrow Wilson Career Enhancement Fellowship, she is working on her second book project, “Speaking Back: How Women of Color Resist Post-Identity Culture,” an examination of iconic and “everyday” women of color’s resistance to “post-identity,” the ostensibly “after” moment of race and gender.

> LIVING VOICES PRESENTS: THE RIGHT TO DREAM

>

> The ECC is excited to welcome back Living Voices, a company that produces a series of historical performances using a unique combination of theatre, video, and live interaction to create a high impact experience. In honor of Black History Month, the ECC and Living Voices are proud to present The Right to Dream, which highlights the struggle and sacrifice for civil rights in America. The Right to Dream recreates a young man's coming of age as an African American in Mississippi during the 1950's and 1960's. This program illuminates the issues of civil rights, leading audiences to understand how the fight against prejudice has shaped our history.

>

> Performer Biography: Earl Alexander, Seattle: Earl first performed with Living Voices in 1999, and has traveled the country performing "The Right To Dream". He holds a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts. He has performed in various theatre productions, on camera and voice-over work over the years, one of his favorite projects is portraying the voice of Louis in the "Left 4 Dead" video game series. Earl is excited to continue performing the Right To Dream this upcoming year.
