Samuel E. Kelly Distinguished Faculty Lecture

Please join us for the annual Samuel E. Kelly Distinguished Faculty Lecture<http://engage.washington.edu/site/R?i=AUJNPIXo9YuhZUBpcXJOxA..>, honoring Dr. Kelly's vision for equity in society. This year's lecture features Professor Richard Ladner of the UW Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Linguistics.

Dr. Ladner has focused much of his research on the use of technology to improve the lives of people with disabilities, particularly the deaf and blind communities. He is the recipient of multiple honors, including the 2004 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) and the 2009 UW Outstanding Service Award.

Named in honor of the UW's first Vice President for the Office of Minority Affairs, the Samuel E. Kelly Distinguished Faculty Lecture acknowledges the work of our distinguished faculty by spotlighting research focusing on diversity and social justice.

Dr. Ladner joined the UW faculty in 1971. In addition to his accessibility technology research, Professor Ladner also works in design and analysis of algorithms and is a past chairman of the ACM Special Interest Group in Algorithms and Theories (SIGACT), the major international organization for theoretical computer science research. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Ladner led the effort to establish an ASL (American Sign Language) program at UW that began in the fall of 2007 and is very active in outreach activities for people with disabilities.
