No, many clients use UID FETCH etc, which are different commands, and
*can* have EXPUNGE sent during their execution.

You will find that if you provide a mail archive over IMAP, a
significant number of people - generally those with better IMAP
clients, too - will start using it as the exclusive method of reading
the mailing lists. I certainly would do. They will expect timely
delivery - again, I certainly would - and will be relying upon normal
