I've just migrated my server from unix to mbx, though not yet in
production, I am considering migrating from mbx to mix. My biggest hang
up [besides that i don't like to be on the bleeding edge in production
enviroments] is that I am not clear what MUAs can read mix mailboxes.
While I use Pine 99.9% of the time, I do sometimes use webmail
[horde.org's IMP]. Also I'm not the only person on the server, so other
users could be using Apple's Mail.app, Thunderbird, iPhone mail,
Outlook[|Express], etc.
I've not been successful in finding a list of MUAs that can read mix
format [i also still need to read up on how to configure postfix and
procmail to deliver/filter into mix mailboxes; i have hundres of procmail
recipes that i fear will need refining].
I have well over 8GB of e.mail in ~/mail spread over a few hundred
mailboxes and about 500MB spread over about 50 mailboxes in ~/.mailbox
plus a [hopefully!] small /var/mail/vjl INBOX. While I do have the most
mail when compared to other users on the system, I still want to make
sure that, as far as they are concerned, they will either see no change
in performance or an increase in performance. I have not done enough
testing with the mbx migration that I did to make any conclusions on
speed increases [it certainly can't be any slower than what i'm used
to!].
But I am worried about how clients like I listed above work with mix. :(
