Your question has nothing to do with IMAP. Instead, your question is about the technical details of the IMAP software implementation that you are using.

So, your best bet to get an answer is to check with the developer/vendor of your IMAP software implementation and/or a forum dedicated to your IMAP software implementation.

>From your description, I can not tell if these files were written by Outlook or by your IMAP server. In either case, that form of file name was not created by any IMAP software implementation that I ever wrote.

Subject: [Imap-use] how to save and archive emails' subjects

Hey everyone,

I’ve been searching the net for days now and
this is my last resort. So I’d be really grateful to hear back from one
of you!

The people in my office are all using Outlook and
through IMAP we have access to common folders. So we put our project-related
emails from our personal outlook-folders to the shared ones and everyone can
access them that way.

I want to save and archive those shared folders on an
external hard drive so we can delete them from the server. Saving works fine
but opening is the problem. All messages are saved in a .zip file BUT I don’t
understand how IMAP names them. They are not named after their subjects. Some
start with the first couple of letters from their subject but the majority looks
like this:

_iso_8859_28_11_2007_13_13_33_11_1205405517843

I can see the date in there but have no idea what the
rest means. Could it be that if we get emails from offices that don’t use
IMAP that our IMAP cannot ‘read’ the subject?

It would be great if you could drop me a short mail,
maybe you’ve had a similar problem.

Thanks a lot!!

Svenja
