What mailbox format is this user using for his/her folders? If I
remember correctly from many years ago I saw similar issues when one
uses Outlook with the old "unix" folder format and the user's Outlook
connection got the "kiss of death" due to another imap process getting
access to the folder. Outlook would sometimes in this case not
automatically acquire a new IMAP connection, but instead "freeze up" and
require a restart before it would get a new working connection. This
sounds kind of like what you are reporting.

If this is the issue, it could be resolved by moving this user to mbx or
mix formatted folders.

Best,
