I suppose it depends on the kind of you operation you run. We are a
university where students and employees expect to be able to use their
INBOX (or any other folder) for archiving. If they are on a
research trip to some godforsaken location without email, they will of
course expect their unread email to be intact when they return.
Only a few years ago, I put a lot of time into chasing users with large
mailboxes. These days, I occasionally send email to the most space
consuming users, but I hardly follow up on it. Disk is cheap, and
thanks to the mix format, the backup problem is gone.
