Not at all, feel free to ask anything you want... 

First of all, we need some details.  What version of RedHat did you
install?  When you say you followed the 'proper proceedures', what did you
do?  Are you currently in runlevel 5, do you know what I mean when I say
that, etc...

I'm also a little confused about what's happening.  You are logging in
successfully to xdm, the graphical login system in an xserver, and THEN it
dumps you out of the server to a regular full screen prompt?  Did you test
your server before setting up xdm?
