Speaking of shops to find used cards -- where is Seattle Laptop, and
where else (besides, I suppose, UW Surplus) might I find a cheap,
used, reliable soundblaster 16 clone?  

By the way, is there a known problem getting an sb 16 PCI card to work
in the 2.2 kernels?  There was some indistinct discussion of that
recently on the SSC linux listserv.
