Window Managers and Linux Distributions

At this point in time I don't really have much appreciation for the
"desktop" idea that KDE/GNOME/CDE offer. I like a simple window manager
which does just what it's supposed to do: display my X windows the way *I*
want them, and nothing more. That's why I choose the window manager of
champions, fvwm2. It has cool modules, too. (like the pager)

Linux is Linux (the kernel is, at least), regardless of the niceties laid
on top of it by different distributors. You will most likely find that
you can pretty much do anything Linux can do within any particular
distribution of Linux. Some distros make it easier to do those things
than others. I think it depends on what usability features you value in
an OS, so I won't try to make up your mind for you (like I did above...use
fvwm2!).
